I was born Profoundly Deaf and growing up, BSL was not recognised as a language. However by the time I left school things had changed and although I used BSL, I decided to gain the qualifications. I passed Levels 1 and 2 then went to UCLAN, Preston to do a Deaf Studies Degree and completed BSL Level 3. I also worked for a while supporting Deaf Adults using and improving my BSL skills.

Amber Pane

About Amber

I am Profoundly Deaf and both my parents are Deaf too. I use British Sign Language as my first and native language. I had experienced teaching basic Deaf Awareness and BSL phrases across different organisation prior to working at DSN. I saw the job advert for a “BSL Trainee Tutor” here at DSN and thought it would be perfect for me. I have recently qualified in Teaching and have many more continuous professional development opportunities to come. These valuable training and skills have developed me as the teacher I am now.
